Chapter 1: The Poison in the Word of Authority

“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any
thing as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God;
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new
testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit; for the
letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”

—II Corinthians 3: 5,6

We are all involved in a struggle to become sure of ourselves, to be confident, to acquire something we call “faith in ourselves.” But for all our huffing and puffing, we forget that we once knew faith, and we also forget to ask how it was that we came to lose it. We have lived with fear and uncertainty all our lives, so how can we possibly remember when we stepped off the rock of faith and set ourselves adrift on the sea of knowledge?

On the other hand, how could we have resisted the temptation to “know” it all? To be as gods in our ability to unlock the secrets of the universe through our great knowledge? Was that not the sin of Adam, the original sin, to which each succeeding generation has given obeisance? Surely, if we were to show the slightest inclination to rely wholeheartedly on our innate common sense, the persons closest to us, those supposedly with our interests most at heart, would soon lower the boom on us, insisting that we stuff our minds with knowledge and “make something” of ourselves, no matter what the cost in terms of worry and anxiety.

Now, as in the beginning, our secret reason for turning our backs on reality and common sense is our desire to know ourselves as God. The proud ego soon loses touch with natural promptings from within and begins to rely entirely on words, thoughts, and imagination for its sense of direction. And until we are ready to give up our pride, the “I,” or ego-self, will find a false sense of security and hope in the ever-increasing activity of the mind, and only of the mind. Pride binds us to the futility of trying to know ourselves only through the process of thinking and imagining.

The more you fail (tricked by your own mind), the more your tricky imagination appeals to you and draws you into its intrigues. You lose yourself in intellectual knowing, and in doing so, you reject reality. Colorful thoughts and imaginings draw you like a magnet into the dream world, where you can escape the reality that would expose your guilt.

When you lose yourself in exciting, colorful dreams, you fail to see the drab meaninglessness of the existence you have so pridefully created for yourself. By its very nature, pride cannot and will not see its own folly, but must escape into thought stuff.

The search for greatness through knowledge is the very thing that makes us insecure to begin with—and it is the very thing we trust in order to “feel” secure! Our trust reinforces the ancient belief in knowledge; seducers become our teachers and our authorities, the creators of our “reality.” They keep us alive in our sleep of death by dreaming up “new” knowledge, “new” techniques to reassure our faltering egos.

We feel most secure when we identify with the authorities who embody the knowledge we have come to need. Our authorities reinforce the original lie that knowledge is what we need to be secure, to “get ahead” in life; and so, without knowing what we are doing, we hand over our lives and souls to authorities, those who are in reality more confused than we are ourselves.

Something wonderfully terrifying happens to the mind of a person who dreams of becoming a leader of men. He starts to go mad, thinking he is discovering reality. Common sense deserts him, and a strange confusing cleverness wells up in its place. He becomes an authority by giving up his soul to the demon of knowledge and allowing himself to become corrupted and confused. The common sense he was born with has been stripped away and replaced by formal education. He is now ready to pull rank, to confound, confuse, and dehumanize other fools, to feel a sense of power and importance rising in his vampirish heart.

Education, as we know it, murders the soul—it dehumanizes, confuses, and confounds.

Hear me well. The secret of salvation lies not in education, but in realization. Without understanding to modify their influence over us, words become hypnotic. We spend our entire existence being programmed, and resisting programming, and struggling against the effect words have on us, not only on a psychological level, but on a physiological level as well.

Words have a way of triggering profound physical changes in us as we accept them and endow them with something of the reality they are intended to represent. Crime, violence, mental illness, war, disease—even poverty—have their roots in the way we believe; and the way we believe leads directly to the way we behave.

Language can be treacherous and dangerous beyond belief. It is the purpose of this written word to alert you to the pitfalls of mere rhetoric.

Take the matter of faith: religion is supposed to set us on the path toward God. Let us take, in particular, faith in a noble religion like Christianity (which can indeed do what it claims) and see how perverted its teachings can become when understanding of the Bible is intellectualized.

The first deadly sin of the spoken word is that which bids us to study and concentrate on “holy writing” in order to acquire understanding and the salvation of the Lord. But was not the quest for knowledge the very sin that led to our fall? If we heed the poison in this advice, and give credence to the spoken or written word instead of trying to understand the reality it seeks to awaken us to, we simply duplicate the original sin.

In order for the skilled wordmonger to control your mind, he must first seduce you away from the counter-influence of your own understanding. There are many tricks he can use to lead you into a state of doubt and confusion, the main one being to induce you to reach for a promise of glory and power equal to the godhead, a state in which you can do no wrong.

In order to hang onto the belief in your “godliness,” you must be made to doubt the reality that says it isn’t so. That reality, once doubted, becomes almost impossible for you to believe again. You see it as the lie, in place of the lie that made you doubt it. You can no longer believe or accept it; you even see it as a threat. You become a victim soul, whose only belief system is the relationship between you and the words of your seducer.

Through your relationship with deceit, you undergo emotional, mental, physical, animal changes. Through this connection, also, come the suggestions that lead your changeling being to calamity. If you are lucky (blessed), you may wake up one day and see that you have been betrayed. You see all those wonderful dreams, goals, and nice people for what they are.

It doesn’t matter whether your ambition is “socially acceptable” or downright illegal and immoral; the lie blinds you equally well either way. The end result in either case is betrayal, disappointment, disillusionment, guilt, rage, depression, unhappiness, and frustration. But if deceit can be used to make us set aside reality and encourage our pursuit of the forbidden, it can be used again to “save” us from guilt.

Perhaps it is time now to turn to religion and salvation from sin; and here is where we are in danger of falling to the guile of the serpent again. Remember that the original problem was doubt, a doubt engendered by our separation from understanding through the leading of words. When the serpent speaks to your soul, he uses words in a very special way, to deceive, to get you caught up with those words instead of with “the enemy”—understanding. He wants you to concentrate too hard, to memorize scripture or learning of whatever kind, to block your understanding, and to make you the victim of an institutional power structure that has its roots in hell. Remember, the only way to freedom and salvation is to have faith in the understanding in your heart.

The first thing a deceiver does is to acquire gobs of religious knowledge and a degree or two. Of course, he may not see himself as a deceiver; he has simply “bought” the lie that will poison all his actions from here on out. He knows that our faith and very existence are locked into the knowledge of this world, and that our ego inherently looks up to authority. For the most part, the more knowledgeable a person is, the more wicked he is, having traded deep understanding for the “respect” that is bestowed on much learning.

The wicked have a great natural influence on the less wicked. Wickedness is the authority of this world, and the wicked person’s nature is nurtured by his mindless fixation to knowledge. Thus, knowledge translates into power for the authority figure.

Knowledge develops in us a wicked, lying nature that is recognized as authority by other budding egos. Wherever you look, in the political scene or the underworld, you will see big sinners dominating, shaping and leading the little sinners.

The error of Adam was to hearken to the voice of the woman rather than to what he knew in his heart to be right. The woman, with her serpent-coached tongue, became Adam’s authority, the reinforcing source of his prideful existence. To this day, the ego existence of man revolves around woman and deceitful authority. A woman who is pretty and is a good liar, good at supporting the male ego in its prideful endeavors, does not have to work at all. A man will work himself to death for her lying support. She represents life and truth to him.

The spirit of the serpent ascends to power wherever the masses of people are enslaved, by their pride, to the pursuit of glory. At a certain point, that pride, in its guilt, needs a religion to relieve it of pain and save it from sin. But the egomaniac’s idea of salvation is not the same as ours. What the prideful ego wants to be saved from is the knowledge of its sin. It will accept any twisted teaching that helps it to save face—anything that makes the soul feel good about itself and that supports and sustains prideful wickedness with a sense of goodness.

The first thing that false preachers do with their hypnotic authority is make you believe that the Bible is the Word of the Lord, when it is simply a message, a word from God, designed to bring us back to understanding. Then, they persuade you to study “The Word,” to focus your attention on words in a hypnotic way, a way that draws you away from real understanding.

Study is an unhealthy egotistical fixation on words, the kind of involvement that ruined man in Paradise; it has the same appeal and sustaining/reinforcing effect today as it did then.

The sin of doubt has to do with joining (through misguided faith) with the spoken word. Mankind’s biggest problem is his inability to believe his own understanding to conjoin with his own wordless, commonsense view. He reacts, responds to, and accepts what other people (especially experts) say. His response is based on the original trauma of believing a lie, which set him up to respond to words and to “authority” forevermore.

Responding is the key to growing in the likeness of the source to which we are obedient. By responding, we dramatize the subtle will of the source. Responding, therefore, strengthens the original bond established through believing, so that responding to the word makes us doubt our true selves more than ever. Doubt leads to still more response, until mindless response becomes our faith, and through that faith comes our thinking and intellectual knowing, forerunners of confusion.

Hellfire preachers use our compulsive responses to make believers out of us. These masters of pressure tactics chain us to the kind of faith that is not faith at all, but is actually doubt in “faith’s clothing.”

The faith we have in words arises from our doubting commonsense Truth. Because we are totally caught up in words and have lost sight of the original truth, it is difficult for us to see what is happening to us.

The seducer that ruined our lives with words now rises to save us with words. And with words he pretends to bring us back to God. What he fails to reveal is that we cannot learn our way back to our Creator. We cannot expect to find God through the study of religion. Truth is not in words, but in the understanding of the heart.

If I were to demonstrate the principles of hypnosis, I would select my subject by his ability to concentrate, to focus his attention onto an idea or object. Having tricked him into concentrating, I could funnel suggestions to his subconscious mind through his fixated attention. My will would become his will, and he would obey me. A hypnotized person will obey another’s command in much the same way that he should be obeying the wordless prompting of his own conscience.

Doubt what you know to be right deep in your own consciousness, and you will begin to follow the suggestions of others. Doubt yourself, and you lose the ability to believe or to follow what you know is right. When you lack inner guidance, something has to get and hold your attention in order to control you, and nothing is more powerful than a promise of glory and salvation for your fallen ego.

When our understanding of the Bible’s message becomes perverted to see it as the Word of the Lord, then the book becomes a god, and the preacher becomes the high priest, the interpreter of the message. The preacher uses the Bible like the hypnotist uses a point of fixation—to overpower the subject. He then twists its meaning into the suggestion he wants his “subjects” to obey.

You will let anyone hypnotize you who promises to cure you by releasing your “great hidden potential.” Inherently and egotistically, we recognize how to obtain something we want through emotionalized belief and fixation to lies.

Remember, the original sin was following the “spoken word,” disobeying God’s command in order to eat of the knowledge of good and evil. The first couple, from whom we have all evolved, simply could not resist the lure of knowledge, thinking that just by knowing what there is to know of good and evil, they would be able to rule the world like gods. But no matter how hard a person studies to know intellectually the Word of the Lord, all he can become through all his learning is a student robot.

Teach and preach the Word of the Lord, and you become a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.” Any “man of God” worth his salt knows that he can’t “teach God” without becoming something of a god himself to his students. Five years in a seminary add up to five years of prideful endeavor, stuffing one’s mind with the knowledge of
God while leaving the understanding of God far behind.

All that the cleric has left to show for his efforts is a pile of intellectual verbiage that can do nothing but confuse the seeker of Truth, while helping the willful to justify their sins.

The self-anointed Christian says, “Yes, I sin all right, but I am always forgiven by the blood of Jesus.” And he sticks to his story in spite of the fact that several chapters in the scripture point to the fact that a man with a truly saved nature can no longer sin. (See John 3: 1-11)

The mark of the Satanic minister, who misuses Christ’s teaching, is his insistence that “no one is perfect other than Christ himself,” and that we can sin all we want to because Christ forgives us. Such a minister thereby uses Christ to support every imaginable sin of pride, and overlooks Christ’s own injunction to us to become perfect even as he is perfect. It is incumbent on us who understand the true meaning of Christ’s message to unmask the Devil wherever we find him, and to point out the inconsistency of his teachings with the very book he claims to hold dear. It’s time to unmask the Devil, to repudiate the “letter” that “killeth,” and to proclaim the spirit of understanding that “giveth life.”


I remember one time, when I was a young boy, someone said something mean to me. All at once I became conscious of my reaction. I wondered, “How could mere words hurt so much?” After all, no one hit me with a rock. Already a searching soul, I was standing back and looking at the awesome effect of words. I saw how my ego was built out of them.

I remember that I would sometimes ask myself a question, and words would come back from within my mind. I thought, “This is ridiculous! Here I am, asking myself a question, and this part of me that sounds like me, but isn’t me, comes up with an answer.” I saw that I still didn’t know the real answer, even though it pretended to be me giving me the answer.

You too have this language spirit, a descendant of the spirit of doubt that was present when Paradise was lost. It has been passing from mothers to children ever since the fall of the first man and woman.

Whenever you indulge in any sin, the spirit of that sin gets inside you. When Adam partook of the fruit of pride, the sin that was on the outside made a home in him. It has operated from its new home in all of us ever since. Even in your own not-so-original traumas, you will find the same phenomenon going on. Whatever is present in the trauma scene effects a change in your nature, and your changed nature henceforth answers slavishly to those people, places and things that excited the change, until you find the truth that sets you free.

The trauma of original sin is the trauma of language. Language, women, food, and later on other fascinations began to affect man more than the God of his conscience. Remember how Adam received his instruction concerning the danger of reaching away from understanding, toward knowledge, toward pride? What caused him to doubt and fall? Wasn’t it, in part, the spirit of language, spoken through a guileful woman? Adam listened to the words of his wife instead of the wordless language of his own heart. To this day, deceitful people have sway over our souls.

Look within and behold this tug-of-war between listening to what we know deep down and the seduction of language. Somehow, instead of believing in ourselves, we allow ourselves to be affected by the words of others. We simply can’t stop compulsively believing the lies and confusion emanating from others until we are redeemed from the tyranny of language. That is the redemption that faith alone can vouchsafe us.

The scriptures say something very interesting about this: “Faith cometh by the word, and the word by hearing.” Perhaps because faith was lost by the word, it must somehow be returned through the word. Those who rule this world are powerful manipulators of the human condition. Their power depends on your reacting to their words. They would be powerless if you failed to react to them. It is your own resentment, your pathetic struggle against their words that feeds their power.

To free yourself from this involvement, the first thing you must do is realize what the problem is. Until you do, you cannot be saved. Discover now how to separate your consciousness from language.

Have you ever experienced saying a word, and as you repeated it, it began to sound like a strange, unintelligible noise? Let’s take any word, like “potato.” If you close your eyes and stand back from saying the word “potato,” soon it will sound like a silly noise. As you become separated from the earthly association, the word is seen to be what it is—just noise. As you stand back from language, you will feel stupid, as though you know nothing at all—you will have given up involvement with knowledge (words) and discovered the first humbling truth—that you don’t know anything, and that nothing you can ever learn by rote is worth anything. Quite often you will feel dumb and stupid because, in truth, your whole sense of worth has been derived from being involved with the deceitful spirit of language. Your sense of who you are is bound up in words. You think in words, you speak in words, you make decisions through words, and that “conscience” talks back to you in words—the false conscience, that is. You are totally involved with language; words direct your whole life.

Someone calls you a “stupid fool.” You react emotionally, and through that reaction you come to believe you are a fool. In your emotional bonding, words are the same as the thing they stand for, so you have no resistance against what they imply.

You feel inferior simply because you have reacted in an inferior way. It is the compulsion to react that lowers you, and now the words fit the condition that the wicked spirit behind the words wanted to create. So you compensate; you try to prove that you are not a fool. You labor to hear words of praise. You try to make people undo with compliments the hurt that degrading words have inflicted on you.

You’ve spent a lot of time seeking praise and approval to make people take their words back, to “eat” their words. But what happens if you succeed in making others praise you or tell you how wonderful you are? You will just be believing words again—lies—because you are not wonderful. You stopped being wonderful when you stopped listening to and believing what is right deep down in your heart, and all the praise in the world cannot put Humpty-Dumpty together again.

The problem, again, is very simple. You tend to believe in words more than in your true original self. If you resent the implications of words, the trauma of doing so turns you into what you resent. React and believe that you are stupid, and you are stupid. You’re stupid for believing that you’re stupid! Believing is a thing of compulsion—of faith or of sin. It is the sin state of believing that we need to be saved from. That’s why you need to listen to men like me who represent the spirit you have fallen from—so that you might believe truly. You must see how pride makes you fall from understanding, as it enlarges itself on words that lie, until eventually the lie, leading with confusion, takes us to our tragic death.

Let’s say someone called you a stupid fool in Japanese. Would that disturb you? It might disturb a Japanese person, but it shouldn’t disturb you because you wouldn’t know what the words meant. But the words “stupid fool” have associations for you, and so you react to their meaning.

However, it is an external meaning, not an internal one. I have a boat, as I like to fish. There’s a red warning light on my bilge pump panel. When that red light goes on, I have reason to worry, right? But if you didn’t know what the red light was for, you might just say, “Oh, look at that red light!” Perhaps you’d think it means that I need to change my oil, and then you wouldn’t be too bothered. But if you realized the red light meant that there was water flooding into the bilge, you’d react, wouldn’t you? When you know what something means, you react to it.

Words have two kinds of meaning. For instance, I could tell you with love that you were stupid, and I could thus wake you up to the fact that you were. I could bring you to your senses. The same thing, uttered by a not-so-well-meaning person, would have an entirely different effect on you.

Look now at your folly. Isn’t your ego too involved with words? Perhaps your mother’s words are loaded. Her attitude shoots word bullets at you as if from a loaded gun. It makes you hate her, doesn’t it? Until you learn the secret of life, you will always resent the cruel words of others and become degraded; you will find yourself reacting to them as if they were the real thing. But I’m saying words are not the real thing. Stand back from the experience and you will see that those words are unreal.

You are too conditioned to language, and language continues to reinforce what language originally did. Adam reacted and believed Eve; he believed into her. When you believe something, you buy it. You believe into. You go into it, and it comes into you; and it acts through you. You are acted through by the spirit of your violation. What those words say is what you become. Your faith is locked into the word-giver. No longer do you have faith in the God self, the wordless Word within. In order for you to be saved and have faith again, you have to become separate. You must become objective to your own self, to the speaker’s self, and to the spirit of the speaker.

I am a mouthpiece of language, but mine is the language of spirit. “Faith cometh by the Word.” I’m saying, doubt education as a means of becoming happy. Your problem is that you have fallen into education, into the hands of the pseudo-intellectuals who emphasize knowledge before understanding, just as the serpent did when he tricked us out of Paradise. Such knowledge induces pride, and pride swells the soul up into conflict with the parent self, the supreme ego of the universe.

I am only just beginning to understand the power of the wordless Word, and just learning to overcome the power of the worldly word. The main thing here is to realize that you must be more objective and less resentful. Resentment is your own willful struggle with your problem, and it prevents you from realizing and re-experiencing the truth. Your own challenged will becomes the extension of the will of another when you answer the challenge in kind.

You cannot struggle against anything. Resentment is the energy of your pride struggling against the world. You struggle and struggle, and you become more and more upset and defeated. The more upset you are, the more word-sensitive you become. The resentment makes you guilty and the guilt makes you think to yourself, “Maybe they are right about me.” And so you will abandon yourself to the lying word completely and die as though you were abandoning yourself to the truth.

Now, just wake up and observe yourself, go out into the world and be conscious of words striking you. Watch your reaction to them, and you will survive.

There are two types of human beings in the world. You might call one “good,” or striving to attain to good, and the other “evil,” or attaining to evil.

Of course, there are a good many people stuck in the middle, between good and evil. Some of those who want to be good are unable to be good because they don’t know how to go about it. They fail to understand the forces that influence them. If you want to join the ranks of the good, the noble, and the brave, you must know what those forces are, through a very special kind of knowledge that I hope to make available to you in the following pages.

Understanding is essentially the same for all men of goodwill. While we are separated by different languages, we all share the same intuitive knowing—unless, of course, it has been “educated” out of us by the misuse of language. The language I am using has just one purpose: to bring you back to that common ground of understanding. The problem is that most of us have been partially alienated from our understanding, so it trails behind us as conscience.

For this reason, we are extremely sensitive to words. We tend to equate language with reality, so that a mere word affects us in the same way as the thing for which it stands. For example, someone calls you a fool. You react, you become upset, and you act like a fool.

Words, except when they are loaded with meaning in order to convey understanding, can be confusing. One person uses words to say the right thing. Another person, with rhetorical slyness, twists the facts, but his words go down just as well. Which one do you believe? What is the truth? Confusing? Yes, but if you have understanding, you will not be confused, because you can see the intent behind each person’s words

Words are poison when they are coming from a wrong place, or falling on wrong ears. When they are not backed by understanding, words are a ship without a rudder, without a captain. Your words collide with the words of others, and their words collide with yours. You both react to each other’s words and, in doing so, you blind yourself to any reality those words might be representing—or covering up.

This book will teach you how to become detached from words—your own, and those of others. You must be able to understand what people are really saying, without words. You were born with the ability to do so; it is as natural to you as the instinct that causes bees to build hives and birds to build nests.

The main flaw in the way we exist on this earth is the fact that we have been seduced by words—or, more accurately—by the spirit, or serpent, behind the words of our deceivers. They have seduced us away from our original genius, and we have compensated for our loss with artificial knowledge, represented by language. Now, as perhaps never before, we are caught up with the leading spirit of language, and accelerating our rate of fall from intuitive understanding. Of course, in the light of truth, we can see how the knowledge of good and the knowledge of evil got us kicked out of Paradise. All we had to do was lend an ear to ideas and concepts that were inherently untenable but oh, so alluring, so believable, to our pride.

Surely you have noticed the difference between true religion and religious-sounding words. They are two different things, but words have a way of conjuring up the “reality” of a false religiosity. The danger here is that when you listen to a person talk, you hear him juggle ideas and concepts to create an emotional “reality,” and before you know what has come over you, you cannot deny the “reality” that has captured your emotions. You feel, you believe, and you are deceived.

Therefore, you may store up in your brain all the knowledge in the world, and yet not be a truly intelligent person. You may be sincerely misguided. Knowing every truth there is to be known about God, as the result of going to church or studying in a seminary, can never certify you to be a spiritual person. Secondhand knowing, the kind that can be “learned” from another, rarely produces real understanding, the kind that saves you. What you need is pure understanding, and the only way an outsider’s words can help you to find it is by stripping away the false claims and pretensions of the knowledge freaks and inviting you to see Reality for yourself, through your own God-given understanding. I pray that my words will be so loaded with right intent and clear seeing that they will wake an echo in you, and you will be able to live by your own inner understanding from now on.

Simplicity, innocence, a knowing without knowing why you know, and growing to maturity through that knowing: that is what life is all about. When you understand, you will not know why you know; yet you will be sure that you do know, because your knowledge will have grown out of the spirit of understanding, and in this kind of knowing there is no doubt. Living by this knowing frees you, once and for all, from confusion and ambivalence, and draws you closer to your Creator.
